Relationships and Intuition
Four of the most hated words in the English language: “I told you so!”
I told you she was trouble…I never had a good feeling about that guy…she/he was all wrong for you.
Have you ever been in one of those relationships where everyone seemed to know that you were headed for trouble except you? Are you a loser magnet? Maybe you’ve got a sign around your neck that says, “Use me!”
How can your intuition be so far off base?
When it comes to love relationships, intuition can be almost impossible to read. Why? Because we’re driven by things that cloud our intuition: chemistry and passion, a longing to find “the one,” fear of being alone. What can feel like an intense ‘soul connection’ could just be your hormones talking!
How can you tell the difference between ‘meant to be’ and NO WAY? One thing that can help is to try to remember your initial connection.
Maybe the chemistry was exciting and intense but that voice in the back of your head quietly warned: ‘Be careful.’
If you spend a lot of time trying to convince yourself that this relationship is OK but deep down, you know it’s not, that’s when it’s time to be still and listen. Find a piece of paper and ask yourself, “What worries me about this relationship or this person? What doesn’t seem right?” Do your best to ask without any attachment to the outcome, and write down everything that comes to mind.
Do the answers tell you anything about what’s really going on?
What if Your Intuition Says ‘YES’ and You’re Right?
What if all of the obvious signs point to NO, but your intuition is telling you YES? Maybe you’ve just broken up with someone, but you feel calm and certain that things will work out.
Ask yourself:
Am I trying to force a relationship that’s just not meant to be, or is this really The One?
If you truly believed that this relationship was going to work out, would you act any differently than you do now? How would you spend your time? Would you worry more or less? Would you go out an enjoy your life, knowing that one way or another, this was going to work out?
That’s also a good indication of whether you’re being led by intuition or emotion. Intuition feels like a quiet yes/no, and emotions are just that–angry, frustrated, scared, resentful, and sad.
Ask yourself the questions that you’re not even sure that you want to know the answers to, and allow yourself to make an intuition-based decision. Even if the initial outcome isn’t what your head and heart wants, your intuition will ultimately lead you to discover what your soul truly needs.
